{Bon Iver}

Bon Iver is set to release a deluxe edition of his self-titled album that will feature video accompaniments for each of the 10 songs on the album. This one got my nod for album of the year, so I'd call this a must listen if you haven't yet done so.

If you didn't hear Toronto-based R&B project The Weeknd's mixtape House of Balloons then you're missing out on one of the best albums of the year. He just put out a trippy video for the atmospheric album closer "The Knowing".

{Big Troubles}

Big Troubles latest album Romantic Comedy is likely to be one of my top ten albums of the year. It's lo-fi pop with bursts of jangly guitars, feedback, with some early ’90s alternative rock flavor. They just released the single "She Smiles For Pictures" with the b-side “Polyommatus Blue”. Have a listen below.

{Kimya Dawson}

Anti-folk veteran Kimya Dawson (half of The Moldy Peaches) tackles motherhood on her latest album Thunder Thighs. The album is half children's songs and half self-reflection and it's got it's share of gems. The album features guest performances by rapper/producer Aesop Rock plus members of the Strokes, Mountain Goats, and more.

{Eames: The Architect and the Painter}

The husband-and-wife team of Charles and Ray Eames are widely regarded as America's most important designers. Remembered best for their mid-century plywood and fiberglass furniture, the Eames Office also created a mind-bending variety of other products, from splints for wounded military during World War II, to photography, interiors, multi-media exhibits, graphics, games, films and toys. Narrated by James Franco, Eames: The Architect and the Painter is the first film dedicated to these creative geniuses and their work.

Look for the film in select theaters November 18th.

{My Week With Marilyn}

In the early summer of 1956, 23 year old Colin Clark (Eddie Redmayne), just down from Oxford and determined to make his way in the film business, worked as a lowly assistant on the set of 'The Prince and the Showgirl'. The film that famously united Sir Laurence Olivier (Kenneth Branagh) and Marilyn Monroe (Michelle Williams), who was also on honeymoon with her new husband, playwright Aurthur Miller (Dougray Scott). Nearly 40 years on, his diary account The Prince, the Showgirl and Me was published, but one week was missing and this was published some years later as My Week with Marilyn - this is the story of that week.

Look for the film in select theaters November 23rd.

Inni focusses on the band's performance at Alexandra Palace over two nights, which is artfully captured by French-Canadian director Vincent Morisset (Arcade Fire's Miroir Noir).

The film is currently screening in select theaters.

Canadian rapper Drake's new album Take Care will release November 15th. The album features guests: Lil Wayne, Rihanna, Andre 3000, Nicki Minaj, and Rick Ross. In addition, four of the tracks were co-written with Toronto singer the Weeknd, and he is featured on one.

{Goodnight Gun: A Fall Mix}

Fall mixes are amongst my favorite to put together. They are arguably gloomier than other mixes, so it gives me a chance to put something different together. I'm hoping I didn't overdo it with the moody tunes. I think I'm trying to tell a story, but I dare call this a 'concept mixtape'. I'll save that for another time. {Lila Downs}

Born in Oaxaca, Mexico, Downs is the daughter of Mixtec singer Anita Sanchez and Allen Downs, a Scottish-American art professor and filmmaker. Her latest album Pecados y Milagros is a mix of original folk songs with newly remade Mexican classics. The album is currently streaming over on NPR.
