{The Tree of Life}

Terrence Malick's The Tree of Life was one of the most talked about movies at the Cannes Film Festival. The film follows a Midwestern family in the 1950's through the journey of the eldest son, Jack (Sean Penn), through the innocence of childhood to his disillusioned adult years as he tries to reconcile a complicated relationship with his father (Brad Pitt).

Look for the film in select theaters May 27th.

After a much-publicized departure from theTonight Show, O'Brien hit the road with a music-and-comedy show titled the "Legally Prohibited From Being Funny on Television Tour" to exercise his performing chops and exorcise a few demons.

{Handsome Furs}

Sound Kapital is the first Handsome Furs album written exclusively on keyboards. It forced Dan Boeckner (who you may know as the guitarist from Wolf Parade) to find fresh avenues of expression that coupled well with Dan's music partner and wife Alexei Perry. Sound Kapital is set to drop via Sub Pop on June 28th.

{City of Life and Death}

Synopsis: 1937, at the height of the Second Sino-Japanese War. The Imperial Japanese Army has just captured the then-capital of the Republic of China, Nanjing. What followed was known as the Nanking Massacre, or the Rape of Nanking, a period of several weeks wherein tens of thousands of Chinese soldiers and civilians were killed. The film tells the story of several figures, both historical and fictional, including a Chinese soldier, a schoolteacher, a Japanese soldier, a foreign missionary, and John Rabe, a Nazi businessman who would ultimately save thousands of Chinese civilians.

Look for the film in select theaters May 27th.

{Small Town Murder Songs}

When a young, unidentified woman is found dead by the lake an aging small town police officer (Peter Stormare) is called to the scene of the town’s first murder investigation in decades. This crime thriller is getting alot of comparisons to something the Coen brothers might do.

Mexican film The Cinema Holdup (in the World Cinema Dramatic Competition at Sundance) tracks a group of Mexican youth unhappy with their social situation that decide to rob a movie theater.

{Octubre}

October is the "purple month" in Lima, when the grey city's somber tones give way to processions celebrating the Lord of Miracles. Hope is reborn among the throngs of devotees who light candles and follow the processions, each in search of their own miracle. In one of the Lima's modest flats lives a small time loan shark Clemente, who returns home one day to find a newborn on his doorstep.

The film is currently screening in select theaters.

{Herman Dune}

French folk-rock act Herman Dune released the first single (along with a video) from their forthcoming album Strange Moosic, to be released on 6 June 2011. Recorded in Portland, Oregon, the new album was recorded simply with a focus on composition and melody, allowing each song to shine through. Personally, I can't get enough of this first single!
